At my recent workshop at the Sonoma County Writers Conference 2024, I mentioned how a networking moment changed my life and helped me finish my memoir, Touched by Hannah. When I spoke with a fellow writer at the Sacramento Writers group meeting in October 2022, I was unsure where to seek an editor for my memoir, Touched By Hannah. Pete Cruz had just finished his memoir and worked with The Great Cecil Murphey, a retired author who sold 25 million books and helps skilled writers to edit their books. He worked me very hard as a mentor and editor--old-school style. The first six months were like boot camp as my drill sergeant kicked my butt. We jammed together through my entire manuscript in 20 months. Cec turned me into the writer I'd dreamed of being, and I could not be more proud of Touched By Hannah. Chris Hennessy produced this award-winning music video, 'Yuba Twenty-Twenty,’ with daughters Hannah and Heather Hennessy. Hennessy, creator of the award-winning TV show, 'Yolo YoYo's' entered the film into the 2021 Yuba-Sutter Film Festival and took 1st (first) place, Best Film! By July 2020, the pandemic, riots, politics, and the hate and disgust on social media all had me feeling down low in the dumps. One night, I was listening to my headphones when a song caught my attention. (Black Gold, Soul Asylum) I listened to that inspiring tune repeatedly for hours every night that week. At the same time, I’d randomly discovered Steele House Coffee, Yuba City, CA. One could sit inside this independently owned joint without a mask - with great ambiance, plenty of seating, air-conditioning, fine coffee, and good folks. I was heading that way about once a week from my home in Woodland to have coffee and write for my upcoming memoir book, Touched by Hannah. I subsequently fell in love with the 45-minute drive through infinity farms and orchards, surrounded by their scenery of brilliant mid-summer greenery. Feeling that I was away from the tumultuous times brought me much joy and comfort. I became motivated to create an uplifting music video honoring that incredible song and my once-a-week getaway. I delightfully put my heart, soul, and a couple hundred hours of intense, from-the-heart work into my 5-minute music video, ‘Yuba Twenty-Twenty.’ The only side-effect I experienced during the project was an energetic natural high that lasted through the entire month of production.
